Tomtom GO 720

The Tomtom GO 720 is the new and improved version of the 700 and 710.  The new GO 720 comes in a sleeker case and the 4.3" wide touch screen is simple to use.  Just tap in your destination by address or post code and you're on your way, easy.  The GO 720 can also divert you around traffic jams with its alternative route finder and will alert you of any speed cameras.

The GO 720 still has detailed maps of street level Western Europe.  One of the new features  on the 720 is Mapshare.  Mapshare enables all Tomtom users to update permanent map changes.  For example if you following a route given by the GO 720 and came across a permanent blocked road you would enter that data into your system and it would then be available to all other Mapshare users.  Unfortunately you can only update your Mapshare feature for a year and then you would have to purchase another map pack for your GO 720.

The alternative route finder is an excellent feature.  You can easily state any roads you want to avoid and it will give you alternative choices so you can pick which way you would prefer.  Brilliant for those that have to commute during busy periods. 

The traffic avoidance does require a TMC antenna or to be used via the Bluetooth facility but you do need a compatible phone.  The Bluetooth enables hands free calling, and text to speech messages.  You can also connect to an MP3 player.  The built in FM modulator can be used via your car radio so instructions will be louder.  The music is faded out when instructions are given.

The voice instructions have also been updated with road names being given and you could even record your own voice for the instructions should you wish.

The POI list has been extended and has added extras for safety and what to do in an emergency.  If looking for the nearest hospital directions would be given to walk or drive or to the nearest place to call for help.

All in all the GO 729 is a handy system that has all the extra features needed to get value for money on a sat nav.
